What is Copyright?

Copyright is protection by the laws to the writers of original works of authorship, like authors, script writers, dramatic, musical, artistic, and certain other intellectual works, weather the work is published or not ublished.


Copyright Act gives copyright owner the exclusive rights to do (or authorize others to do) following:

  • Reproduce the work in copies;

  • Prepare derivative works based upon this work;

  • Distribute copies or phonorecords of the work to the public by sale or other transfer of ownership, or by rental, lease, or lending;

  • Perform the work publicly, in the case of literary, musical, dramatic, and choreographic works, pantomimes, and motion pictures and other audiovisual works;

  • Display the work publicly, in the case of literary, musical, dramatic, and choreographic works, pantomimes, and pictorial, graphic, or sculptural works, including the individual images of a motion picture or other audiovisual work; and

  • In the case of sound recordings, to perform the work publicly by means of a digital audio transmission.

It is illegal for anybody to copy any of the copyrighted material without the permission of the copyright owner.
